NFL RB donates Patrick Mahomes rookie card to kids charity auction
An autographed Patrick Mahomes rookie card donated by Buffalo Bills running back Duke Johnson highlights a charity auction being hosted by SlabStox.
The in-person and virtual auction is being held in conjunction with “Trade Night” at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City July 27-31. All proceeds are being donated to Camp Kesem, a summer camp that supports kids whose parents are fighting cancer.
The virtual auction, which is live at the PWCC Weekly Auction at PWCC Marketplace, features more than 100 cards and more than $100,000 in assets that have been donated.
The live event will be held Thursday, July 28 at The National’s “Trade Night.” The auction closes on July 31.
Johnson donated the 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes Rookie Autograph card to help support the worthy cause.
“I supported just because it felt like the right thing to do,” Johnson said through PWCC. “Seen an opportunity to put a smile on someone's face that might be going through a lot and took it. Hopefully I was able to do that.”
The auction also features a Stephen Curry game-worn jersey autograph card.
Camp Kesem offers innovative, fun-filled programs geared toward children whose lives have been impacted by a parent with cancer. This is the second year the auction has been affiliated with The National. The 2021 event raised more than $125,000 to help send more than 250 kids to camp for free.
“We had so much support last year, we can’t thank all our sponsors and contributors enough. They stepped up again this year to positively impact these kids' lives at a time when they are hurting,” said Aaron Nowak, SlabStox Founder & CEO. “We know it has been a tough year, yet the generosity of the card industry continues to grow. Every day we receive packages with donated slabs [graded cards], sealed boxes and some of the most highly sought-after collectibles in the industry.”
Additional sponsors include SGC, Whatnot, Card Ladder, Midwest Cards, Topps and many others.
