1968 Topps complete set tops $1.4 million in Mile High auction

A high-grade 1968 Topps complete set sold for $1.4 million in Mile High Card Company’s April Auction, while several cards from a high-grade 1952 Topps set also attracted big dollars.

The 1968 Topps complete set was PSA graded, earning a 9.94 GPA and a 10.90 weighted GPA. The set, which is in the PSA Set Registry’s Hall of Fame, featured 572 of 598 cards graded PSA 10. The set remained intact and sold for $1.414 million.

“The hobby remains strong, especially for some of the most stellar examples that were featured in this auction,” MHCC CEO and President Brian Drent said.

Three cards from the 1952 Topps high-numbered set topped six figures, including: a #311 Mickey Mantle (PSA 5.5) for $161,599; #261 Willie Mays (PSA 8) for $160,759; and a #312 Jackie Robinson (PSA 8) for $145,812. Two other cards that did well were the #1 Andy Pafko (PSA 7) that sold for $24,258 and a #407 Ed Mathews (SGC 7) that brought $39,230.
