Julien’s Sale Offers N.Y. Yankees Game-Used Jerseys, Rare Medals
Julien’s Auctions has announced the Sports Legends 2015 exclusive online auction will feature an extraordinary collection of sports memorabilia offered via julienslive.com beginning Oct. 26 and ending Nov. 9.
This historic collection of items to be auctioned includes game-worn items from the N.Y. Yankees, including Thurman Munson’s 1971 Yankees home flannel, Derek Jeter’s 2013 home Yankees jersey and Mariano Rivera’s 1996 home Yankees jersey.
The jerseys will be joined by a pair of Spalding brand Yankees home uniform pants worn by Roger Maris during the 1964 season. Stitched into the interior of the white and navy blue pinstripe pants is a Spalding manufacturer’s tag with “Set 1 1964” flap tag attached. Stitched into the waistband is “Maris 9 64 36 24 ins,” with the number “9” representing Maris’ uniform number and “64” representing the year. Written on the interior waistband in black marker is “64-9-39.” The pants are framed together with Maris’ 1958 Topps rookie card, which has been graded Near Mint 7 by PSA, and Maris’ 1961 Topps card, which has been graded Near Mint 7.
Property from other Yankees legends such as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and many others are also being offered.
Memorabilia from other sport icons, including Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Peyton Manning and Wilt Chamberlain are also included in the lineup.
Basketball fans can bid on memorabilia that includes the full backboard from the Los Angeles Forum, which was in use during the “Showtime” era of the Los Angeles Lakers. It includes a glass backboard signed by Lakers legends and Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Inductees.
Other basketball highlights include LeBron James’ St. Vincent & St. Mary’s High School game-worn basketball uniform and Michael Jordan’s 1997-98 Chicago Bulls full road uniform.
Another highlight in Julien’s sale is a torch used in the 1936 Summer Olympics torch relay. The 1936 Summer Olympics torch relay was the first of its kind, following the reintroduction of the Olympic flame at the 1928 Games. It pioneered the modern convention of moving the flame via a relay system from Greece to the Olympic venue. While there were many torches produced at the time for the 1936 relay, many were eventually melted down to be used for supplies for World War II. This torch was used by a torchbearer in the relay who hailed from the Greek town of Larissa in central Greece.
Also look for Pelé’s Brazil National Football Team game-worn soccer jersey in the sale that ends Nov. 9. The 1970 Brazil National Football Team would win the country’s third FIFA World Cup title in 1970, with the team being recognized as one of the greatest teams in World Cup history. Pelé has also been recognized as the greatest soccer player in the history of the sport.
Other professional soccer game-worn jerseys in the lineup are from soccer legends Zico, Socrates, Ronaldo, Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Finally, the sale will also include Fred Perry’s 1932 Lawn Tennis Hard Court Championships of Great Britain Men’s Double gold champions medal. Perry is widely considered the greatest player in the history of lawn tennis and won the Men’s Singles title at Wimbledon from 1934-36.
