Top Sports Memorabilia Getting Attention As This Week’s Auctions Close

It's basically the final week of big auctions in the sports hobby before Christmas, and there is plenty of auctions the next three days.

Starting tonight with the close of three sports memorabilia auctions: Collectible Classics, 8D Auctions and Iconic Memorabilia, Lelands will close Friday night and Memory Lane and Morphy Auctions will wrap things up on Saturday.

I thought I would summarize what some of the bigger items are currently residing at in terms of bidding, just in case you wanted to get in on the action.

Collectible Classics (closes Thursday)
The Collectibles Classic auction included a Honus Wagner 1911-14 D304 Butter Krust card graded PSA 5. Current bidding was at $10,871. Tommy John's 1978 Los Angeles Dodgers game-used jersey (and other equipment) was residing at $2,310. A Thurman Munson game-used bat had reached $3,723.

8D Auctions (Thursday)
This auction is headlined by the Chris Chambliss game-used jersey from the 1976 ALCS in which he had a game-winning home run in Game 5. The jersey, which has no reserve has an opening bid at $25,000. A Derek Jeter game-used jersey from this past season with the Yankees is at $4,284. Plenty of other game-used items are up for grabs, with 10 percent of all the proceeds going to athletes' charities.

Iconic Memorabilia (Thursday)
Also ending tonight (Wednesday) is Iconic Memorabilia's sale. A Babe Ruth single-signed baseball is currently heading the list. And no wonder why, the auto grade is NM 7!. Current bidding is at $16,696. Another impressive lot is Michael Jordan signed rookie card lot of five currently going for $9,503.

Lelands (Friday)
Lelands has some imressive featured lots, including the 1959 Washington Senators jersey of Harmon Killebrew, which is blowing up at $23,580 currently. The bat Frank Robinson used to slug his 500th career home run in 1971 is currently at $16,105. A foul ball from Derek Jeter's 3,000-hit at-bat is at $10,000. A Hack Wilson single-signed baseball is also at $10,000.

Memory Lane (Saturday)
Memory Lane kicks off its sale with Lot No. 1 being a 1909 T206 Eddie Plank Sweet Caporal PSA 5 EX. An impressive card, it currently resides at $70,000. The Ty Cobb Cut Plug Tobacco tin that attracted a lot of pre-auction attention was up to $21,47. A 1951 Bowman rookie card of Mickey Mantle, SGC 8, was just over $16,000, as was the 1902 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet of John (Honus) Wagner.

Morphy Auctions (Saturday)
One of the headline items in this sale was Muhammad Ali signed fight-worn shoes and trunks. The shoes are at $175 and the trunks haven't opened at $275 yet. There are a lot of great Hartland figures in this auction, as well as autographed items and ungraded cards.
