SCP Auctions is proud to present Part 2 of the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection in its 2015 Spring Premier, which begins April 8 and runs through April 25.

The Helms Athletic Foundation was a Los Angeles-based sports organization founded in 1936 by W.R. “Bill” Schroeder, a private sports memorabilia collector, and Paul Helms, the owner of the once famed Helms Bakery, which was the “official baker” of the 1932 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games. The Helms collection ran the gamut of sports artifacts, from medals and memorabilia, to trophies and awards. It was once considered the most complete sports library in the world.

Amongst the more than 150 lots featured in SCP Auctions’ Part 2 offering, top items include the Tony Lazzeri Memorial Trophy honoring the PCL’s “Home Run Hitter of the Year (1955 to ’65); legendary Seabiscuit jockey George Woolf’s racing worn silk from 1938; Ollie Matson’s circa 1951 Univ. of San Francisco Dons game-worn jersey; the 1912 Budweiser Cup donated by Anheuser-Busch to the Portland Automobile Club Five-Mile Race; College Football All-America Captain’s Cup Trophy engraved with every winner from 1932 to 1950; and the 1926 Bill Tilden and Florence Ballin Asheville Golf and Country Club Tennis Championship (Mixed Doubles) Sterling Silver Award.
