Philip Weiss might be better known for toys and other collectible categories in the collector's market, but the Oceanside, N.Y., auction company has carved out a nice niche in sports memorabilia that continues in the upcoming sale that will be held live on June 15 at 2 p.m.

Among the comic-related and non-sports lots will be pieces of memorabilia that would headline any sports auction. Card collectors will enjoy a nice selection of mid-grade 1911 T3 Turkey Red cards, all slabbed by PSA.

Meanwhile, game-worn buffs will be interested in the 1970 Kansas City Chiefs jersey of Len Dawson. In 1970, Dawson led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl IV championship, earning MVP honors in the process.

Another amazing “game-worn” piece of memorabilia is the USA team-worn uniform of Roy Moore used in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1932 Olympics. Moore served as a coach for the gymnastics team during the 1932 Games. But Moore was a prominent figure in U.S. gymnastics history, serving as a coach among other duties, and he is considered the “modern father” of U.S. gymnastics. The Olympic uniform comes from the Moore estate.

Signed memorabilia will be a big part of the auction. Among the highlights is a Nile Kinnick signed black-and-white photo and a signed program, along with a Babe Ruth 1937 signed check. Fans of the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers championship team will feast on a team-signed ball, and boxing fans’ interests will be piqued with a circa 1930 Jack Johnson boxing poster.

In other sports, bidders will look for a 1952-53 World Champion Minneapolis Lakers signed photo; signed Schicks Restaurant menu featuring George Mikan, Vern Mikkelsen and Jim Pollard; and a 1954-55 Terry Sawchuk Detroit Red Wings multi-signed goalie stick.
