A wide array of game-used memorabilia available in Grey Flannel’s Holiday Auction
Grey Flannel’s Holiday Auction, which is currently open for bidding, provides its loyal customers with an array of game-used memorabilia, historical artifacts, screen-worn Hollywood collectibles and rare one-of-a-kind autographs. The auction ends Wednesday, Dec. 7.
One of the highlights of the auction is a 1910 Christy Mathewson Highlanders vs. Giants NYC Interleague “Manhattan Championship” players ring. Mathewson won three games during the series.
The ring is made of 14kt gold and is accompanied by an LOA from an independent jeweler. It is also accompanied by a plethora of copied documentation that sources the ring back to Christy Walsh’s law firm that was directly involved with the commissioner’s office back in the early 1900s.
For game-used jersey collectors, the auction includes a variety from all sports.
The highlight for baseball game-used jerseys is a 1939 George Selkirk New York Yankees game-used pinstriped home flannel jersey, which is adorned with Babe Ruth’s iconic No. 3.
Another top baseball jersey available is a late-1940s Warren Spahn Boston Braves game-used and autographed jersey. Inside the jersey on the rear collar is a “Horace partridge” size “42” manufacturers tag. Below is a white felt strip tag with the player name, “Spahn” embroidered on it in red chain-stitching. The jersey is sourced from a team scout 30 years ago and is fresh to the hobby.
Collectors of football game-used jerseys will be following the bids for the Brett Favre game-used jersey that he wore Jan. 20, 2008 in the NFC Championship game. This was Favre’s last game as a Green Bay Packer. The jersey has a noticeable stain on the front player number and below the number. In game action reveals traces of the stain on the mesh. There are also hit marks and grass stains on the back player number.
The jersey is autographed. Favre signed the back player number in black pen with the added inscription, “Game Used 1/20/08 NFC Championship.”
Several high-end basketball game-used jerseys are available, headlined by a 1984-85 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Los Angeles Lakers game-used home jersey. Another Lakers jersey available is a 2012-13 Kobe Bryant game-used road jersey.
Other basketball jerseys available include a 1986-87 Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls game-used home jersey, a 1950-51 Bill Sharman rookie NBA Washington Capitols game-used Durene road jersey, a mid-1960s Jerry Lucas Cincinnati Royals game-used home jersey, a 1957 “Easy” Ed Macauley NBA All-Star game-used and autographed Western Conference jersey with stirrups, and a 1976-77 Julius “Dr. J” Erving rookie Philadelphia 76ers game-used road uniform.
The top hockey jersey is a late-1960s Bobby Orr Boston Bruins game-used road Durene jersey.
The auction isn’t all jerseys as there are a variety of other types of memorabilia available for all sports.
