Babe Ruth Auction Now Live: Game-Used Bats, Contracts, Cards and More

Goldin Auctions' Babe Ruth Auction is now live, with proceeds benefiting the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum. For each lot sold, 5 percent of the hammer price will be donated to the museum. Bidding ends Mar. 5.

Nearly 80 lots comprise of the sale, with all of the items connected to Babe Ruth, from game-used bats, contracts, trading cards, ticket stubs to photos, personal items and advertisements.

Leading off the sale is a 1925-26 game-used Hillerich & Bradsby bat graded PSA/DNA GU 9 from the Ted Leaper Collection. The bat was obtained from Ruth by Ted Leaper, in whose family this bat remained until 2013. In the "Roaring Twenties," Ted Leaper was manager of the Paramount Theater, Paramount Pictures' Manhattan flagship on Broadway. When the theater opened its doors in 1926, Leaper generated great publicity by admitting ball players free of charge which added to the prestige of The Paramount.

Another one-of-a-kind relic is Lot No. 2 that features a 1933 Ruth-signed and executed N.Y. Yankees player contract. Bidding starts at $100,000 for this item.

Signed baseball featuring Ruth are abundant, from single-signed examples to N.Y. Yankees team-signed balls that stretch to six different seasons.
