T206 Honus Wagner card sells for $1.9M at Mile High Cards
The iconic T206 Honus Wagner card is still attracting big dollars, especially at Mile High Card Company.
The Castle Rock, Col. company sold a rare copy of the iconic card for the sixth time in the last five years in its April Auction. The card, graded PSA AUTHENTIC, sold for $1,980,000, a record for the grade.
“With each Mile High Card Company sale of a T206 Wagner, a new mark is established within the hobby. We’re grateful for the opportunity to have sold such an iconic card, but equally pleased with the results of many other high-profile pieces in this auction,” MHCC CEO and President Brian Drent said.
Other top sales included a 1933 Goudey completely graded set (5.016 GPA) that was broken up and sold for a total of $192,367; 1952 Topps complete set completely PSA Graded (6.013 GPA) that includes a PSA 3 Mickey Mantle for $208,555; a 1955 Topps #123 Sandy Koufax (PSA 9) $224,032; a 1971 Topps complete set completely PSA graded (#7 PSA Set Registry 8.014 GPA) for $165,355; 1909-11 T206 El Principe De Gales Ty Cobb Portrait Red (PSA 6 EX-MT) $62,312.
Other top-selling cards include: a 1910 Tip Top Bread Honus Wagner Pittsburgh Pirates (PSA Authentic) for $22,012; 1933 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth (SGC 4 VG-EX) $25,872; 1934 Goudey #61 Lou Gehrig (PSA 7 NM) $27,862; 1934 Goudey Premiums R309-1 Babe Ruth (PSA 4 VG-EX MBA Silver Diamond) for a record $16,261; 1953 Topps #220 Satchel Paige (PSA 8 NM-MT) for a record $19,467; 1956 Topps Gray Back #135 Mickey Mantle (PSA 8 NM-MT) $15,879; 1958 Topps #47 Roger Maris (PSA 9 MINT) $17,680; 1968 Topps 3-D Boog Powell (PSA 6 EX-MT) for a record $9,306; and a 1976 Topps #330 Nolan Ryan (PSA 10) for $39,207.
Other top-selling sets included: a 1949 Bowman complete high-grade set (#8 on PSA Set Registry with 6.35 GPA) for $53,827; 1952 Topps nearly complete set (400/407 with No Mantle) for $92,001; a 1953 Topps high-grade complete set (PSA Graded 6.78 GPA) for $68,701; 1954 Topps Baseball complete set (PSA 6.15 GPA) for $30,718; and 1956 Topps high-grade complete set for $57,933.
