NHL stars meet DC Super Heroes in new card set by Upper Deck
Upper Deck has partnered with Warner Bros. to create four new trading card sets that combine DC Super Heroes with top NHL prospects and stars and hockey legends.
The 2025 Upper Deck DC Fanimation Crossover set is available for a limited time on the Upper Deck e-Pack platform. Upper Deck owns the trading card licenses for both the NHL and the Warner Bros. DC brand.
The new set features five high-profile draft prospects reimagined in comic book style with original art pieces inspired by various DC Super Heroes. Among the athletes, Matthew Schaefer pays homage to Superman; Michael Misa to Batman; James Hagens The Flash; Porter Martone the Green Lantern; and Caleb Desnoyers to Nightwing.

Thes five cards combine to make up the first of four Crossover sets to be released throughout 2025. The second set, featuring Upper Deck exclusive spokesmen Wayne Gretzky and Connor McDavid, will be available in mid-July with designs inspired by DC Studios’ new film “Superman,” hits theaters on July 11.
“Far too often, the sports and entertainment worlds are thought of as separate paths that collectors can never cross. We wanted to bring fans together by reviving an iconic insert to spotlight some incredible Upper Deck athletes whose lives will change on draft day,” said Jason Masherah, president of Upper Deck. “While Fanimation cards have been sought after for decades, combining their unique art style with future NHL stars and the DC Universe is an innovation that collectors have never seen before.”
Fans can purchase 2025 DC Fanimation Crossover cards ($5.99 per pack, 1 card per pack) now through July 7 on Upper Deck’s e-Pack platform. The cards will be offered digitally, then printed and available to ship in 8-10 weeks.
Collectors can also visit the Upper Deck Store to find autographed prints, pucks and jerseys from Schaefer, Misa and Hagens, as well as DC trading cards.
Upper Deck is the presenting sponsor of the June 27-28 NHL Draft. It also has signed Schaefer, the potential No. 1 draft pick, to an exclusive trading card and memorabilia deal, giving Upper Deck exclusive deals with eight of the top 10 draft prospects. Upper Deck had previously signed prospects Misa and James Hagens are memorabilia and trading card deals, while Porter Martone, Caleb Desnoyers, Roger McQueen, Kashawn Aitcheson and Carter Bear are exclusive to trading cards.
