Ty Cobb, Johnny Evers cards highlight March auction at REA
From Ty Cobb and Johnny Evers to Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle and Jim Brown, Robert Edward Auctions has a wide variety of rare vintage cards up for bid in its March Encore Auction.
REA’s third auction of the year, which runs through March 19, features nearly 3,400 items.
“Our March Auction includes a wide range of cards and memorabilia across not only different sports, but a variety of non-sport areas as well, which is very exciting for the growth of our business and speaks to the growing and expansive interests within the hobby,” REA President Brian Dwyer said. “We’re receiving auction items from all over the world that are giving our customers a fresh look into how deep this hobby can go and how many unique pieces are really available.”
The top items in REA’s March auction include:
• Ty Cobb T206s with scarce ad backs, including two elusive 1909-1911 T206 White Border Cobbs: Bat Off Shoulder PSA GOOD 2 with a Polar Bear back; and a Portrait Red Background PSA VG 3 with an Old Mill back.
• Very Rare Johnny Evers T206. One of the rarest cards available, this card features a desirable Broad Leaf 350 advertising back. Only the third example PSA has ever graded.
• 1996-97 Score Board Basketball Autographed Collection Kobe Bryant Rookie Gold #31/300 (PSA 8 with GEM MINT 10 signature). Depicting Kobe at Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia, this card is not only one of his rarest rookie cards but features a pristine signature from the Laker legend.
• 1958 Topps Football #62 Jim Brown Rookie (SGC EX+ 5.5). One of the most iconic football cards of one of the game’s greatest players. Also available in a PSA EX 5.
• Trio of Mickey Mantle PSA 8s —1957 Topps, 1964 Topps and 1967 Topps. All PSA 8.
• 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Eleven of these classic cards, including all four of the iconic Babe Ruth cards — #53, #144, #149 and #181.
• Jackie Robinson trio. Three of Robinson’s most popular cards: 1948 Leaf #79 Rookie (PSA VG-EX 4); 1955 Topps #50 in (PSA NM-MT 8; and his 1956 Topps #30 (PSA NM 7).
• 1952 Topps Mays and Campos “Black Star on Back.” Two cards from the classic 1952 Topps set — the popular #261 Willie Mays and the lesser known but extremely rare #307 Frank Campos “Black Star on Back,” which was unknown until 2006.
• Rare 1919 Grover Alexander and 1927 Honus Wagner signed checks. Signed checks from two Hall of Famers: a Chicago Cubs payroll check originating from a team executive; and a personal check featuring the Flying Dutchman’s early signature of “J. Honus Wagner.”
