Shohei Ohtani, Paul Skenes cards net big sales in Goldin auction
Three-time MLB MVP Shohei Ohtani and 2024 NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes were two of the biggest stars of the 2024 season.
Ohtani, the first 50/50 star in major league history, won the NL MVP for the Dodgers, his third MVP award in four years. Skenes, the No. 1 draft pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, became a dominant starter for the Pirates in his rookie season.
Their spectacular 2024 seasons has led to a surge in demand for their trading cards, and both MLB stars set records in Goldin’s December Elite Auction.
Ohtani’s 2018 Topps Transcendent '52 Superfractor rookie card sold for $246,440, a record for the card.
Meanwhile, a 2024 Topps Chrome Paul Skenes Signed Rookie Card (#1/1) sold for $111,532.
Goldin’s final auction of 2024 also featured several other record-breaking and notable sales. Other highlights include:

• A 1926 W512 hand-cut #6 Babe Ruth card for a record $19,931.
• A 1962 Topps Baseball Series 3 unopened 5-cent wax pack for a record $9,760.
• A Michael Schumacher race-worn Scuderia Ferrari F1 OMP racing suit for $45,140.
