Pete Maravich rookie card, 1969 Topps rookies set records in vintage auction at PWCC
The rookie cards of 1970s NBA legends Pete Maravich, Walt Frazier and Willis Reed and the 1969 Topps cards of Oscar Robertson, Jerry West and other stars all set records in the June/July Vintage Premier Auction at PWCC Marketplace.
Maravich’s 1970 Topps rookie card, graded PSA 10, sold for a record $552,000 to become Pistol Pete’s highest-selling trading card of all time, according to public sales records. One of only two Maravich rookies graded Gem Mint 10, it is also the fifth highest sale for any pre-1980 basketball card.
The coveted Maravich rookie is also the highest-selling card from the unique Topps 1969 and 1970 “tall boy” sets, surpassing Lew Alcindor’s 1969 rookie card, which sold for $501,900 in 2016.
