The recent coverage of Andy Jurinko's 'Golden Boys' book featuring his portrait of baseball's greats from 1946-60 (see that article here) led to a couple of people letting me know about a new DVD that showcases many of the same players that are featured in Jurinko's book.

The DVD, called Ballfield to Battlefield and Back From FDR to JFK, features 60 minutes of color footage of WWII-era Major League Baseball from 1939-62. Among the more than 80 players and 40 Hall of Famers featured are Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Bob Feller, Hank Greenberg, Warren Spahn and Yogi Berra, among others.

This DVD also features four Presidents of the United States "throwing out the first ball" in Washington D.C. – FDR, Harry Truman, IKE and JFK. There's also color footage of Babe Ruth Day at Yankee Stadium in 1947 and the legendary Honus Wagner when he was a coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Narration is provided throughout from George Case (six-time American League stolen base champion, four-time American League All-Star) and Mickey Vernon (two-time American League batting champion and seven-time American League All-Star.)
