Michael Jordan cards set record in PWCC auction
The value of Michael Jordan rookie cards has taken a dip in recent months following the sports card boom of 2021-22.
But one of the most coveted basketball cards in the hobby may be on the rebound, especially if it includes an autograph from the greatest player in NBA history.
A 1986 Fleer Jordan Rookie Auto card (PSA 8 NM-MT, DNA 9) sold for $162,000, a record for the grade, in the September Premier Auction at PWCC Marketplace. Only three examples have been graded higher than the Pop 6 issue, putting it in the top 13 percent of all autographed examples of the card.
Another Jordan card also set a record in the auction. A 1995 Skybox Premium Meltdown Michael Jordan #M1 (PSA 10 GEM MINT) sold for a record $21,900. The rare card is from the 10-card Meltdown series included as one of the 12 insert sets within the 1995 Skybox Premium release. Only 16 examples have been graded PSA 10.
Two other NBA legends also set a record in the auction as a 2005 Exquisite Collection Logoman Auto card of Hall of Famers John Stockton and Magic Johnson sold for a record $43,200. The dual-signed 1/1 card was graded BGS 9.
Three NFL cards also set records in the auction, including:
• A 2012 Panini Prizm Orange Pylon Kirk Cousins Rookie 1/1 (BGS 9.5 GEM MINT) for $3,780, a public-sale record for any Cousins card.
• 2020 Panini Prizm Black Finite CeeDee Lamb Rookie 1/1 (BGS 9.5 GEM MINT) for $14,000, a record for any Lamb card.
• 1997 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Terrell Owens PMG GREEN 7/15 (PSA 5 EX) for $9,600, also a player record.
