Golf Auction Tees Up Another Sale
Tiger Woods might be losing his grip on the golf course and in the sports memorabilia market, but there is much more to golf collectibles than a single man.
The Golf Auction makes that point crystal clear with its upcoming auction, slated to kick off Sept. 1 and retire Sept. 18. The auction, consisting of several hundred lots, will feature Masters and Augusta National items from the 1930s to the present.
Collectors will find autographs from nearly all of golf’s Masters winners and 29 lots that feature contestant pins from the estate of a 1930s professional golfer.
Collect badges? The Golf Auction will offer Masters badges from 1948-2010, including fine examples of the 1949 and 1966 tournament. The 1949 Masters was the first tournament to award the Green Jacket to the winner, which in this case was Sam Snead. Jack Nicklaus won the 1966 Masters, becoming the first back-to-back champion.
Among the more vintage items are the first Masters program from 1934, a 1962 U.S. Open pennant (Nicklaus’ first Major victory) and a 1951 Masters wire photo featuring Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan.
Flags will always be a part of a golf auction, and this sale includes a 1972 Masters embroidered flag, a PGA Championship flag from 1999 at Medinah (Woods’ first PGA Championship) and another Masters flag signed by 29 former winners, including Woods, Palmer and Nicklaus.
The auction will also feature golf medals, hickory clubs, golf trophies, vintage golf programs, tickets, scorecards, old golf books and much more.
