More John Branca Collection stars turn up in Octob

The Oct. 10-20 MastroNet Classic Collector auction will feature more than 1,500 lots of sports and Americana items, with all of the lots opening with a minimum bid of $100.

The auction will feature yet another installment of the John Branca Collection, one of the top graded-card collections in the hobby which has been a major component of several MastroNet sales over the past two years.

This installment from the collection includes a 1948-49 Leaf No.1 Joe DiMaggio SGC 80; a 1933 Goudey Sport Kings No. 1 Ty Cobb SGC 80 (shown inset center); a 1953 Topps Five-Cent unopened wax pack GAI 5 (shown lower left); a 1933 Goudey No. 92 Lou Gehrig PSA 7; 1910 T206 White Border Ray Demmitt St. Louis American SGC 40; a 1920 Babe Ruth “Headin’ Home” advertising piece (shown at left); 1912 S81 Turkish Trophies Large Silk premium Tris Speaker; an extremely rare 1909-11 T206 White Border “Tough Back” pair with “Drum” and “Lenox” graded SGC 40; a 1914 B18 Blanket collection (25), including two Ty Cobbs; a 1909-11 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background with rare “Lenox” back GAI 2; an 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions complete baseball set (8); an 1888 N29 Allen & Ginter World’s Champions complete baseball set (6); and an 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter World’s Champions complete baseball set (10).

Football highlights include a 1922 Canton Bulldogs world champions framed team composite photograph; Frankford Yellow Jackets official program; 1922 Dayton Triangles program and team photo; 1931 Providence Steam Rollers vs. Green Bay Packers paper broadside; 1933 Green Bay Packers pictorial (with Curly Lambeau) cardboard schedule broadside; 1951 Green Bay Packers autographed football; 1956 Chicago Bears division champion autographed football; 1946 Chicago Bears world champions signed football; 1961 Chicago Black Hawks Stanley Cup Movado watch presented to Brian Shaw.

The auction boasts single-signed balls from the likes of Babe Ruth (Harridge), Gabby Hartnett, Lou Gehrig (pre-1934 OAL) and Ty Cobb, plus a 1911 hardbound edition of America’s National Game by A.G. Spalding, a 1910 Frank Chance Booster Club pin, Ryne Sandberg 1994 Chicago Cubs game-worn road jersey, and a Greg Maddux 2001 Atlanta Braves game-worn jersey.

Americana Highlights: 1789 George Washington “Long Live the President – GW” inaugural button with original shank; 1906 Theodore Roosevelt/ William Howard Taft signed appointment; 1945 Iwo Jima photo signed by flag raiser Charles W. Lindberg in framed display; pristine 1870 U.S. Grant signed pardon; 1824 James Monroe signed Presidential military appointment; 1900 Teddy Roosevelt signed book Hunting the Grisly; 1962 JFK signed typewritten letter; 1862 Abraham Lincoln Presidential commission; 1994 Tommy Lee Jones uniform from the film “Cobb”; circa 1921 Charlie Chaplin signed photo; circa 1912 Titanic figural brass barometer; and a 1974 “Little House on the Prairie” script signed by Michael Landon.
