Mile High Sale Ends Oct. 10 – How High Will Mick Go?
Bidding is getting close to winding down at Mile High Card Co.’s fall auction. With the auction closing slated to begin with the extended bidding period at 9 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Oct. 10, there is still time to register and place bids.
The 1,430-lot auction features a bevy of impressive items and is buoyed by a terrific group of complete and nearly complete vintage sets from all four of the major sports.
When questioned on the current auction, Mile High Card Co. President and CEO Brian Drent said the sale was "a thorough presentation of a vintage offering that really offered something for everyone, with a great amount of fresh-to-the-hobby material being offered. The E. C. McCoid (Field Of Dreams Find) alone is an outstanding assemblage that we are exceptionally excited to be able to bring to market”.
The auction is definitely highlighted by the contents of the E.C. McCoid find which includes a stunning and attention commanding exceptionally high-grade offering of a nearly complete 1917 Collins McCarthy complete set of exceptionally scarce blank backed cards as well as an impressive 1916 M101-4 Sporting News Blank Back complete set all PSA-graded that features an outstanding #151 Babe Ruth rookie PSA 3.5 VG+ (the highest graded blank backed example graded by PSA, and is a card that has attributes of a much stronger graded card).
Other items of considerable note offered within the sale are: a stunning 1909 T206 Eddie Plank Sweet Caporal 350 Series PSA 5 EX, as well as a 1909-11 T206 Christy Mathewson "Dark Cap" PSA 8.5 NM/MT+ – the highest graded example on the PSA Population Report.
Also offered in the auction is a terrific example of a 1909 T204 Ramly Walter Johnson PSA 6 EX/MT. The auction also features an exceedingly rare 1933 Goudey final production sheet featuring No. 53 Babe Ruth and four other Hall Of Famers, also featured within the sale is an outstanding exceptionally high-grade 1952 Topps Near Complete Master Set that resides at No. 16 on PSA Set Registry that will be sold aggregately to the highest bidder on either the set or the singles.
Also of much importance is a tantalizing 1951 Bowman No. 253 Mickey Mantle SGC 96 Mint 9, as well as a bounty of Mint Mickey Mantle cards that includes but is most defiantly not limited to a 1954 Dan Dee Mickey Mantle PSA 9 , a mesmerizing 1954 Bowman #65 Mickey Mantle PSA 9and an outstanding 1967 Topps #150 Mickey Mantle PSA 10.

The memorabilia portion of the auction is well represented and is supported by a litany of highlights not limited to the following but definitely highlighted by: a terrific and rare Dieges and Clust 1960 Roger Maris New York Yankees Most Valuable Player Award, as well as a pair of Circa 1910 Ty Cobb and Hal Chase examples of a "Fan for a Fan." Also offered is an early career Roberto Clemente single-signed ONL (Giles) ball PSA/DNA 9 MINT, and a 1930s Jimmy Foxx autographed George Burke Type I photograph that grades PSA/DNA 9 MINT.
