Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb and Mickey Mantle—marquee names from our national pastime and the world of sports memorabilia—are at the top of the lot list in the Mile High Card Company’s September Auction, running Aug. 17 to Sept. 3.

“This auction is going to be incredible,” said MHCC President and CEO Brian Drent. “The significance of the four headliners speak for themselves, but just going down the list beyond that, it’s one museum-quality item after another.”

The quartet of items Drent refers to are a 1909-11 Sweet Caporal 150/25 T206 Honus Wagner PSA 1; a T206 Ty Cobb with Cobb back, the finest example known from the “Lucky 7 Find” and graded a PSA 4.5; a 1948 Bowman nearly complete wax box (18/24) BBCE, the grand prize of the “The Beer Box Find”; and a 1968 Mickey Mantle game-used jersey, MEARS A9.5, Sports Investors, JSA—likely from his final game in Major League Baseball.

A plethora of vintage baseball cards, including those of Babe Ruth, and cards of more recent athletes like Michael Jordan and Joe Montana are among other key items in the auction. These include a 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco Mickey Welch Pitching PSA 1 PR, the only known graded example; a 1904 Pittsburgh Leader Honus Wagner Schedule PSA 4 VG-EX, the only copy graded by PSA; a 1909 T206 Sweet Caporal Series 150/30 Eddie Plank SGC 1.5 FR; a 1933 Goudey #149 Babe Ruth PSA 8 NM/MT; a 1933 Goudey #181 Babe Ruth PSA 8 NM/MT; a 1948 Bowman #18 Warren Spahn PSA 9 MINT; a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle SGC 7.5 NM+; a 1955 Topps #164 Roberto Clemente PSA 7 NM; a 1956 Topps #135 Mickey Mantle PSA 8 NM-MT; a 1966 Topps #50 Mickey Mantle PSA 9 MINT; a 1986 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan PSA 9 MINT, and 1981 Topps #216 Joe Montana PSA 10 GEM MINT. A near complete set of 1956 Topps baseball cards, each card graded PSA 10 GEM MINT or PSA 9 MINT, will be broken up and offered as individual lots.

Game-used jerseys are plentiful in the auction, too. In addition to Mickey Mantle, jerseys from Michael Jordan, Billy Pierce, Herb Score, Lew Burdette, Brooks Robinson, Julius Erving, Les Richter, and Brett Favre are featured.

There is also a special section devoted to hardcore Michael Jordan fans with a collection of 15 limited-edition, autographed specimens from various elite sets, many of which have not been seen for sale in years and are more highly prized than even his 1986 Fleer rookie card.

Numerous complete and near-complete sets dominate as well with the PSA Set Registry getting a strong workout with baseball, basketball and football sets dating from 1909 and on.

Other key pieces include an exceptionally rare Ty Cobb Tobacco Tin; a stunning circa 1910s Christy Mathewson Type I Original Photograph by Charles Conlon PSA/DNA; a 1916 Boston Red Sox Cabinet Photo featuring Babe Ruth; the finest example MHCC has ever offered; a Babe Ruth signed portrait photograph PSA/DNA and JSA; a spectacular Jimmie Foxx single-signed ONL (Giles) ball PSA/DNA NM/MT 8 and JSA; Roberto Clemente's 1972 MLB All-Star ring, the last ring of his career; a 1998 Denver Broncos Super Bowl XXXIII Championship player's ring (Marvin Washington); a 2000 New York Giants 14K gold and diamond NFC Championship ring; a 2001 St. Louis Rams 14K and diamond NFC Championship ring with the presentation box; an Abraham Lincoln signed framed endorsement, BAS-Beckett Autograph 10 GEM MINT; and a Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens and Albert Bigelow Paine signed Fly Leaf Book Page, PSA/DNA and JSA.
