LeBron James Triple Logoman card falls short of record, sells for $2.4 million at Goldin
A 1-of-1 LeBron James Triple Logoman card sold for $2.4 million during the June Elite Auction at Goldin Co.
Billed as the “holy grail” of modern cards, Goldin expected the rare, highly sought-after 2020-21 Panini Flawless card to break the all-time record for sports cards. Though the $2.4 million sale was impressive, it fell far short of the $6.6 million record, which still belongs to a SGC 3 version of the iconic 1909 T206 Honus Wagner card.
The card features NBA logo patches from jerseys from the three teams James has played for — Cleveland, Miami and the Los Angeles Lakers. It had been the subject of a year-long search before being pulled during a live break on social media platform Whatnot earlier this year. It attracted 25 bids at Goldin with the final price including the standard buyer’s premium.
Though the card is one of the highest selling LeBron cards of all time, it also fell short of the record 2003 Exquisite Collection LeBron James Rookie Patch Autograph card numbered to /23 and graded BGS 9, which sold for $5.2 in a private sale brokered by PWCC Marketplace in April 2021.
A similar LeBron rookie card also topped seven figures in Goldin’s June Elite auction. A 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite Rookie Patch Autograph Parallel, numbered #12/23 and graded BGS NM MT+ 8.5 with a 10 autograph, sold for $2.1 million.
Among the other top-selling cards in the auction were:
• A 1980-81 Topps Larry Bird/Magic Johnson Rookie Card (PSA 10) for $660,000.
• A 1996-97 Skybox E-X2000 Credentials #30 Kobe Bryant Rookie Card (PSA 10) for $600,000.
• A 1916 M101-4 Sporting News #151 Babe Ruth Rookie Card (PSA VG-EX 4) for $510,000.
• A 1997-98 Skybox Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Red #23 Michael Jordan (BGS NM 7) for $450,000.
• A 2020-21 Panini Flawless Logoman Autographs Anthony Edwards Rookie Patch Auto (#1/1) for $426,000.
