Game-used items dominate Bricol December Auction

Editor Input Needed

With football taking center stage at this time of year it was no surprise that football-related lots were the driving force in the December auction. Everything from game-used football jerseys, to game-used helmets, to a salesman's sample Super Bowl trophy, the bidding was strong and heavy for football items.

Leading the way was a LaDainian Tomlinson signed San Diego Chargers 2003 game-used road jersey, which sold for $2,662. Not far behind was the San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl XXIX Vince Lombardi team salesman's sample trophy selling for $2,600.

Three game-used helmets were next in line, with the first one being a Drew Brees helmet that was used during the 2004 San Diego Chargers season. The helmet received 27 bids and sold for $1,565. A 1966-67 George Mira San Francisco 49ers game-used Riddell suspension helmet sold for $1,500, while a Philadelphia Eagles 1961-66 game-used Riddell suspension helmet sold for $1,429.

Other football lots in the auction included: a Jerry Rice San Francisco 49ers early 1990s game-used home jersey ($1,025); a Bert Jones late 1970s - early 1980s Baltimore Colts game-used road jersey ($1,000); a Gary Huff Chicago Bears 1973 game-used preseason/early regular- season road jersey ($1,000); a Gino Torretta 1994 Detroit Lions autographed game-used road jersey ($809); and a Greg Landry 1979-80 Baltimore Colts game-used road jersey ($800).

There was also plenty of action involving the baseball lots in the auction. The highest selling baseball item was a Barry Bonds 2002 San Francisco Giants game-used alternate jersey selling for $3,221.

Other baseball lots included: a Tom Lasorda signed Los Angeles Dodgers game-used 1983 jersey ($1,214); a Cal Ripken 2001 Baltimore Orioles game-used alternate jersey ($999); a Curt Schilling Philadelphia Phillies late 1990s autographed game-used home jersey ($934); and a Bob Kennedy 1968 Oakland A's game-used flannel home vest-style managers jersey ($846).
