Bob Knight Collection to be Offered by Steiner Sports
The “Bob Knight Collection,” a treasure chest of artifacts from the personal trophy room and drawers of the legendary basketball coach, will be front and center at the Steiner Sports “Perfect Auction,” celebrating the 25th anniversary of the memorabilia company.
Championship rings, a sports coat and an Olympic gold medal are among the collectibles expected to garner bidding “Hoop-La” from gavel-to-gavel through December 5 online at www.steinersports.com.
The previously-announced Don Larsen Perfect Game uniform and the Knight galaxy of artifacts are the highlights of the auction.
Steiner Sports founder Brandon Steiner celebrates the 25th anniversary of his company with an auction for the ages featuring 1,500 never-before-available collectibles. A veritable “Who’s Who” of sports champions are among the unique auction artifacts available, including boxing’s Muhammed Ali and Joe Frazier; golf’s Jack Nicklaus; baseball’s Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Henry Aaron; hockey’s Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier; and basketball’s Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.
Coach Knight’s NCAA Championship rings from the 1976 “Perfect” Season, as well as the ’81 and ’87 title years, ’84 Olympics and Hall of Fame rings, his 1984 Olympic Gold Medal and ’88 Coach of the Year Award spearhead the hardware. From the clothing hangers are a sports coat and 1984 USA Olympic warm-up jacket.
Among the rare artifacts also available for bidding include: Mantle autographed magazine; Shea Stadium visitors lockers of Aaron and Willie McCovey; hand written pages from DiMaggio’s diaries; a baseball signed by Yankees iconic owner George Steinbrenner; a Gatorade cooler signed by the 1986 Super Bowl champion New York Football Giants; a signed Frazier Everlast speedbag; and a Madison Square Garden VIP seat from the Knicks 1973 NBA Championship season.
