Unique DiMaggio & Monroe Autographed Baseball to be Auctioned by Heritage!
A unique, autographed baseball jointly signed by New York Yankees Hall of Fame player, Joe DiMaggio, and his former wife, actress Marilyn Monroe, will be offered for sale by Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas, Texas on May 6, 2006.
"The ball is from the estate of the late Associated Press photographer, Harry Harris," said Chris Ivy, Director of Sports Collectibles for Heritage. "By a pure stroke of luck, he obtained the signatures during the Yankees 1961 spring training in Florida when DiMaggio and Monroe were attempting to reconcile after their divorce."
"DiMaggio and Monroe are among the most famous of all celebrity couples, and this one-of-a-kind baseball is one the most exciting autograph items in recent years. Their signatures are bold and clear, and on the same panel of the ball, making this a truly spectacular item for collectors," said Ivy.
"This is the only known baseball autographed by both DiMaggio and Monroe with her name as 'Marilyn Monroe.' One other joint-autograph ball is known, but she signed it 'Norma Jean DiMaggio.' It sold for about $50,000 seven years ago."
In a 1989 interview, veteran news and sports photographer Harris recalled that DiMaggio surprisingly volunteered to be photographed with Monroe during spring training in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1961.
"...we were sitting around the clubhouse and he said, 'Hey, Harry, would you like to make a picture of Miss Monroe and me?' We went to their place on the beach. I posed them with a fishing rod.... When we were finished, my wife got out of the car and asked me if I would get them to autograph one of the balls I kept in the car in case I needed a prop," he recalled in the story.
He said he had turned down a $5,000 offer to sell the baseball in 1961.
Harris, of Brookhaven, New York, passed away in 2002 at the age of 88. He worked for Associated Press for nearly 50 years until retiring in 1978, and shot many famous photographs including President John F. Kennedy lying in state beneath a statue of President Abraham Lincoln.
The unique DiMaggio & Monroe signed baseball carries a pre-auction estimate of $100,000 and up.

Heritage to offer Wilt Chamberlain Game-Worn Jersey at Auction
He was a titan, the likes of which may never be seen again.
One of the most decorated, storied players in the history of basketball, Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain began his professional career with the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters, in 1958-59. He went on to play for the Philadelphia Warriors (1959-62), during which time he won the NBA MVP Award (1960). He also played for the San Francisco Warriors (1963-64), the Philadelphia 76ers (1964-68), and the Los Angeles Lakers (1968-73).
The 7'1" superstar was the first player in NBA history to be named both Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season, and Chamberlain would go on to set record after record during his impressive career.
"Chamberlain is, literally, one of the giants in the field of basketball," said Chris Ivy, Director of Sports Memorabilia Auctions for Heritage Auction Galleries. "His game-worn uniforms, like the one we're offering in our upcoming auction, are the ultimate collectibles for many fans."
"Just a year after shocking the world with a one hundred-point performance in Hershey, Wilt the Stilt suited up in this heroic gamer during the Warriors' first season in San Francisco," Ivy said. "Though never duplicating his triple-digit feat of March 2, 1962, the legendary Hall of Fame center easily repeated as the league's scoring leader in 1962-63, netting an outrageous average of 44.8 points per game."
"It's clear from the strong wear that characterizes this amazing jersey that hundred and hundreds of the more than 3,000 that Wilt scored this season came while wearing it," Ivy said. "Other chart-topping stats compiled in this wardrobe: minutes played, field goals attempted, field goals made, field goal percentage, rebounds (total and per game) and points."
"Yellow and blue tackle twill spelling 'San Francisco 13'across the chest shows the puckering consistent with reaction to salty sweat," Ivy said, "as does the number '13' repeated on verso. The small '44' size tag in the collar is all that remains of labeling, though it is well known that Wilt used to remove these tags for comfort. This home white jersey was acquired from Wilt personally by a ball boy for the team, and represents one of the finest jerseys from this early NBA legend ever offered for public sale."
Heritage Auction Galleries will offer the 1962-63 Wilt Chamberlain game-worn jersey in their upcoming Signature auction, to be held May 6, 2006 at their headquarters in Dallas, TX.
Wilt Chamberlain's 1962-63 game-worn jersey bears a pre-auction estimate of $15,000 - $20,000.

Robert Edward Auctions Salutes New Hall of Famers
Robert Edward Auctions is pleased to announce the inclusion of a small but very significant selection of items related to the Negro Leagues, including rare signed items from several of the recently elected Hall of Famers. These items include:
1) The only known baseball single-signed by Effa Manly, the first woman to ever be elected to the Hall of Fame, on a special 1980 Wilson Negro League Players Reunion baseball, as well as a 1977 handwritten letter by Manly to Negro Leagues baseball historian John Holway in which she is expressing her extreme displeasure with the Hall of Fames selection process for Negro Leaguers.
2) A 1931 Jud Wilson Signed Real-Photo Postcard. This is the only known card of Jud Wilson from his playing days, in addition to being the only known signed photograph of Jud Wilson.
3) A 1940 Negro League Stars Signed Ball Including Newly-Elected Hall of Famers Jud Wilson and Ray Brown. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only baseball known to exist to be signed by either Jud Wilson or Ray Brown.
4) 1939 Ray Brown Signed Puerto Rican League Player's Contract. One of four Ray Brown contracts known, and one of fewer than ten Ray Brown signed items currently known.
5) A circa 1947 Official Negro League Ball with just four signatures: Campanella, Robinson, Newcombe, and Doby, in Near Mint condition.
6) Sol Whites 1907 History of Colored Base Ball book, one of fewer than ten copies known, long considered to be one of the "Holy Grails" of all Negro League collectibles.
7) 1931 Harrison Studios real-photo postcard of Josh Gibson, signed by Gibson on both the front and back. This newly discovered card pictures Gibson in spring training of 1931 as a rookie with the Homestead Grays. It is the only card known of Josh Gibson dating from his playing days.
8) A 1905 Ohio Wesleyan Calendar with Baseball Team Photograph including Branch Rickey (as coach) and Charles Thomas, the black ballplayer whose encounters with racism on this team planted the seeds for Branch Rickeys commitment to promoting integration in Major League Baseball decades later.
9) An extremely rare cabinet photo featuring the 1882 University of Michigan Team including Moses Fleetwood Walker. This is one the earliest of the few Moses Fleetwood Walker photographs known. In 1883 Walker became the first black player in Major League history with Toledo of the American Association.
Catalogs will be shipped April 7, 2006. The auction will be online approximately April 10, 2006. Auction closing date: April 29, 2006. If you have recently moved, please log-on to www.RobertEdwardAuctions.com to update your mailing address. We are already accepting consignments for our next sale.
