1933 All-Star Game ball stars in October Coach’s s

A black-and-red-laced Official League Wilson baseball signed by 22 members of the 1933 All-Star Game, a classic signed photo of Marilyn Monroe from “The Seven Year Itch” and a vintage red-laced ball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig will be among the featured items in the upcoming Coach’s Corner Sports & Celebrity Auction. The auction will run from Oct. 10-14, with online and fax bidding already under way at the auction house Web site. In all, there will be more than 3,000 items up for grabs.

The lead item is a signed baseball that represents a historic moment in baseball history. The ball is signed by Ruth on the sweet spot, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Lefty Grove and 17 other members of the 1933 American League All-Star team. Coach’s Corner President Scott Malack values the ball in excess of $10,000.

A signed 8-by-10 classic photo of Marilyn Monroe on the wind-blowing grate in New York City as a part of the famous film “The Seven Year Itch” is also one of the highlighted pieces in the sale.

Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig signed baseballs are always in high demand and this auction features an excellent condition black-and-red laced non-official ball signed by Ruth and the sweet spot and Gehrig on the bottom panel. Also on the block will be a single-signed, red-and-black-laced 1920s “all purpose practice ball” signed on the sweet spot by Ruth, along with a Ruth-signed official American League ball.

Another classic team-signed ball is a 1934 Tour of Japan Draper and Maynard ball signed by Ruth, Earl Averill, Charley Gehringer, Lefty Gomez and 14 other members of that famous touring team. GM Lee Trythall estimates the ball’s value at $8,000.

A section of the Beatles’ White Album, signed by all four musicians and framed to measure 14-by17 is offered in the sale; a related item, a John Lennon cut with a hand-drawn self-portrait, will also be on the block.

Other significant signed baseballs include a Cy Young signed “All Purpose Practice Ball”, a Ty Cobb green-ink signed baseball, a Hank Greenberg signed 1978 World’s Series ball, a Jackie Robinson signed 1940s era ball, a Wahoo Sam Crawford signed Sonnett Little League ball, and a Roberto Clemente signed Sonnett ball.

Team-signed balls include: the 1969 Pittsburgh Pirates, including Clemente, Vernon Law, Bill Mazeroski and 18 others; 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers with Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Walter Alston and most of the team; a 1932 Yankees with all the stars in evidence; a Hall of Famers ball with 17 contemporary signatures; a 1950s red-laced Hall of Fame greats induction ball with the signatures of Connie Mack, Rube Marquard, Bill Terry, Ted Lyons, Frankie Frisch, Waite Hoyt and others; and a similar ball signed by four Hall of Famers: Joe Medwick, Dizzy Dean, Pepper Martin and Frisch.

Signed equipment includes a Cobb-signed Rawlings glove, a Baseball All-Century team bat that has no certificate but originated with Ken Goldin (ScoreBoard) bearing the signatures of Hank Aaron and nine others, a Mickey Mantle signed Yankees “stats” jersey, three Wayne Gretzky signed hockey sticks, a Dan Marino signed Dolphins “stats” jersey, a Michael Jordan signed basketball, a Sonny Jurgensen 1968 Pro Bowl Golden Helmet award, a Ted Williams signed Mitchell & Ness Red Sox jersey and a 1992 Steve Young signed 49ers jersey.

Signed items of interest include a Ruth 1939 World’s Fair laurel card, a Ruth framed and signed Wire photo, a Ruth-signed government postcard, a Ruth-signed Cooperstown 1939 Baseball Centennial cachet, a Gehrig-signed New York 1939 World’s Fair cachet, two DiMaggio-signed Yankee Stadium blueprints, a Clemente-signed 1970 Pirates poster and a Jesse Burkett signed cut.

Signed photos and lithos include a 1937 Yankees team photo signed by Gehrig, DiMaggio, Bill Dickey and Tony Lazzeri, a Mantle-signed piece of Gerry Dvorak art of his 1952 Topps card, a Mantle-signed 16-by-20 photo, a 1951 Oakland Oaks team-signed photo including Mel Ott and George Kelly, a Ted Williams-Joe DiMaggio signed ScoreBoard photo, a 500 Home Run Club framed and signed poster, a Tiger Woods signed advertising photo, a Walter Payton signed Bears photo, a number of Nolan Ryan items, including a signed ball and his rookie card, and a Muhammad Ali signed and framed piece of art.

Sports card items include a Jimmie Foxx signed 1960 Fleer Greats card, a 1959 Clemente Topps card graded Gem Mint 10 by Pro Grading, a 1955 Topps Yogi Berra card graded 9.8 by Pro Grading, a 1954 Bowman unopened 1-Cent football card pack, a 1975 Topps Baseball set, a 1981 Topps Joe Montana rookie card graded Pristine 10, and a lot of 667 autographed baseball cards from eight different teams, including the Yankees and Red Sox.

From the world of show business and beyond comes a signed “Wizard of Oz” cast photo, a Campbells Soup can original piece of Steve Kauffman artwork, an actual casino slot machine, a Rolling Stones signed “Steel Wheels” album, a Bob Dylan signed guitar and an Elvis Presley signed photograph.

History buffs will be interested in a picture bearing the signatures of five former US Presidents: Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, George H. W. Bush, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, as well as a rare document signed by Gen. George S. Patton.
