T206 Eddie Plank, 1933 Goudey Napoleon Lajoie lead MHCC Elite December Auction
Mile High Card Company is once again closing out its year by offering an Elite December Auction that breaks new ground for the company.
Four of the most iconic baseball cards ever produced; a 1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal Eddie Plank PSA 1 PR, 1909 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson PSA 2(MK) GOOD, 1933 Goudey #106 Nap Lajoie SGC 6.5 EX/NM+, and 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA 4 VG/EX, lead a list of just over 500 lots that include not only the usual array of world-class cards but a music memorabilia section featuring The Beatles, Allman Brothers and The Grateful Dead. Also included is an extensive selection of autographed artwork by Grateful Dead front man Jerry Garcia.
“As with end of the year auctions in the past, we’ve limited the number of lots to just over 500 but the quality of the sports cards and memorabilia as well as the incredible artwork of Jerry Garcia will certainly capture plenty of interest,” said MHCC President and CEO Brian Drent. The auction opens for bidding on Monday, Nov. 19 and concludes on Dec. 6.

Complete and near complete sets are well-represented with the two most coveted sets ever produced out in front: a 1909-11 T206 near complete set (475/520) with many PSA graded and a 1952 Topps near complete set (377/407) with many PSA graded. Also going to the winning bidder will be a 1951 Connie Mack Book complete set all PSA graded #2 on PSA Set Registry, 1969 Topps Football Set #10 on PSA Set Registry with 8.47 Set Rating, and more than 35 complete and near complete baseball and football sets ranging from 1948 through 1980.
It wouldn’t be a Mile High Card Company auction without a prime assortment of world class sports autographs and memorabilia, many of which are being seen in the sports collector’s world for the first time. Leading the way is a Babe Ruth single-signed baseball graded NM/MT 8. Also open for bidding will be a 1922 Christy Mathewson signed check PSA/DNA 9 with letter from Mrs. Mathewson to collector, a Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig signed barnstorming photograph PSA/DNA MINT 9, a 1960 Roberto Clemente handwritten and signed letter in Spanish with hand addressed envelope dated September 1961, a Lou Gehrig single-signed and inscribed baseball, a Babe Ruth signed and inscribed 1937 “All America” award photograph with Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio, a Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig signed OAL (Harridge) ball PSA/DNA and JSA, a 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Champions team-signed baseball with (25) signatures including Koufax, Robinson, Campanella and Hodges, a 1967 H&B Louisville Slugger advertising display poster with Mantle, Clemente, Aaron, etc., a 1969-72 Willie Mays game-used Louisville Slugger bat PSA/DNA GU 8.5, a Christy Mathewson and Billy Evans original artwork by Dick Perez, a Muhammad Ali signed supersized 40” x 30” photo vver Sonny Liston with “AKA Cassius Clay” JSA, four different handwritten and signed Ty Cobb letters and two signed Ty Cobb checks.
Now let’s talk music. MHCC presents an incredible music memorabilia and autograph component, headlined by two autographed Beatles pieces - a 1963 The Beatles signed photograph with all four members and a 1963 The Beatles signed hotel register with all four members (with Ringo Starr signature as R. Starkey).
Also offered are a variety of electric guitars and album covers that are autographed by members of The Allman Brothers, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, and even an acoustic guitar signed by 32 members of the Andy Griffith Show.
Grateful Dead legend Jerry Garcia is world-renowned for his impressive artwork as well as his music, and this auction features more than 30 different signed and numbered Jerry Garcia lithographs, etching artist’s proofs, silkscreen prints and pencil sketches.
