Will Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance help sales of Kelce game-used Chiefs jerseys?
Thanks to pop-star girlfriend Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce has suddenly become one of the most popular stars in the NFL, getting more TV time than any star not named Patrick Mahomes.
And thanks to Swift’s budding romance with the All-Pro tight end, the Chiefs have suddenly become one of the most popular teams in the NFL, with her legion of Swifties making Chiefs jerseys, particularly Kelce’s No. 87, everyday attire.
Swift’s appearance at Chief’s games has created such a ruckus that nearly everyone is weighing in on their romance and its impact on the Chiefs and the NFL playoffs. Everyone from former NFL star Brett Favre to Mahomes’ father.
But the big question for collectors and dealers of sports card and sports memorabilia is this: How will the Swift-Kelce romance impact sales of Kelce's football cards and Chiefs memorabilia?
We are about to find out as Goldin Co. has a game-used, signed Kelce jersey in its January Elite Auction.
Kelce wore the jersey in two preseason games and three regular season games during the 2015 season, his second full season in the league. He had six receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the Chiefs’ season opener against the Houston Texans.
The jersey has attracted 10 bids and has a current bid of $9,500 in the auction that runs through Jan. 27.
The auction also features a game-used home jersey from Chief’s superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes from Kansas Cit’s October 2022 games against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Other auction highlights include:
• A Babe Ruth and Shohei Ohtani dual-signed 2023 Topps Definitive Collection Redemption Card. The card features two of the hobby’s most sought-after athletes batting.
