The iconic T206 Honus Wagner card, once considered the “holy grail” of sports cards, has been overshadowed in recent years by the record-setting 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card.

But the ultra-rare 1909-11 Wagner still commands seven figures on the sports collectibles market. Mile High Card Company will once again test the market for the Wagner card with an example up for bid in its September Auction.

Graded AUTHENTIC by PSA and labeled RESTORED, the T206 Wagner card is the fifth example sold by Mile High Card Company since 2019.

Mile High sold the Sweet Caporal “Charlie Sheen All-Star Café” Wagner PSA 1 for $3.06 million in March 2022. MHCC also brokered the private sale of a PSA 3 Wagner for $3.25 million in October 2020, the second-highest price paid for any sports card at the time.

In October of 2021, an SGC 3 example of the card sold for a then-record $6.6 million at Robert Edward Auctions. That was eclipsed in 2022 by an SGC 2 Wagner that sold for $7.25 million at Goldin.

The Goldin Wagner held the all-time sports card record for less than a month before being surpassed by a SGC 9.5 copy of a 1952 Topps Mantle card that sold for a record-shattering $12.6 million at Heritage Auctions.

“As the bellwether of the card collecting world, the sale of a T206 Wagner is an event that serves to mark the state of our industry, and no one has a better track record of success over the last few years than Mile High Card Company,” MHCC CEO and President Brian Drent said.
