When Russia invaded the Ukraine, former NBA player Slava Medvedenko stayed in his home country to help territorial defense forces in Kyiv and help his war-torn country any way he can.

Part of that effort includes selling his 2001 and 2002 NBA championship rings to help build new sports facilities and clubs through his Fly High Foundation.

“I aspire to give Ukrainian children smiles and faith in the future,” Medvedenko said. “That is why I created the Fly High Foundation, which is already helping to rehabilitate children who lost their relatives, homes or faced bombing or occupation. These children need our support now.”

SCP Auctions is partnering with Medvedenko to sell his two championship rings in a spotlight auction that runs through Aug. 5, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Ukraine relief efforts. SCP Auctions will donate the entire sale price of both rings to the Fly High Foundation.

Fly High’s mission is to support Ukrainian kids by restoring the sports infrastructure of the country’s schools and launching a network of social sports clubs. For more information, visit flyhigh.fund.

SCP expects the rings will combine to raise at least $100,000 or more.

“If these championship rings save even one life, it will be an important victory for me,” he said.

Medvedenko played in the NBA from 2000-2006. He was on the Lakers championship teams in 2001 and 2002. A power forward, his best was in 2003, when he averaged 8.3 points and 5 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per game.
