Hockey fans, imagine a lineup that includes Wayne Gretzky, Stan Mikita, Mark Messier, Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby and a host of other stars and Hall of Famers.
OK, now imagine that lineup of stars pertains to a selection of game-used jerseys. Something worth checking out, right? Well, GameWornAuctions.net has game-used jerseys of the aforementioned players and much more in sale that is live now and will end May 24.
The 650-lot auction includes the Shawn Chaulk Collection, which features more than two dozen vintage, game-worn Edmonton Oiler jerseys. Look for vintage and modern NHL, WHA and international jerseys in the auction.
Kicking off the auction is a 1980-81 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers game-worn jersey. The second-year jersey for the Great One is photo-matched and one of the only jerseys known to exist of this style from Gretzky’s sophomore season. Bidding started at $10,000.
Another tough find in the auction is the 1959-60 or 1960-61 Stan Mikita Chicago Blackhawks game-worn jersey. Depending on the year of origin, the jersey is either Mikita’s rookie jersey or the one worn during the 1960-61 Stanley Cup.
The Shawn Chaulk Collection numbers 60 lots in the auction, including the Edmonton Oilers jerseys mentioned above. Oiler player jerseys include Mark Messier (1979-80 and 1982-82), Jari Kurri (1981-82 and 1985-86), Grant Fuhr (1981-82), Paul Coffey (1981-82 and 1980) and other examples from Glenn Anderson, Kevin Lowe, Steve Smither, Dave Hunter and Risto Siltanen. Other big names from the collection not related to the Oilers include Sidney Crosby (2010 Team Canada jersey) and numerous jerseys of Michael Ryder and Adam Pardy.
The Gunzo Collection also made the lineup, consisting of 41 lots of jerseys and sticks. Leading the pack is a 1974-75 Gilles Meloche California Golden Seals game-worn jersey, with name on back, which is a rare feature. Other jerseys from this collection include Rick Vaive, Rik Wilson, Robbie Ftorek and Ralph Backstrom.
The Gunzo Collection also features a Walter “Gunzo” Humeniuk 1960-61 Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup Championship ring. The 1961 10-carat diamond and gold Stanley Cup ring was created by Balfour.
Also look for Mini, Juniors and college game-used jerseys, as well as examples from the WHA.
Where they are game-used hockey jerseys, there are sure to be game-used hockey sticks. This sale includes examples used by Gretzky, Messier, Patrick Kane, Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Towes, Mike Modano, Jaromir Jagr, Ken Dryden, Bobby Orr, Bill White and many others.
Baseball fans aren’t left completely in the dark in this auction. An early 1980s jersey worn by former L.A. Dodgers hurler Fernando Valenzuela is in the sale. The Goodman & Sons jersey is a home white version.
Another baseball jersey is a 1962 Ted Bowsfield Los Angeles Angels game-worn jersey. Bowsfield won nine games for the Angels in 1962.
