The Black Boxes are Coming

An industry summit for the sports hobby of some shape or form has taken place for the past several years. One of the special features for dealers attending the event is the product offered by manuafcturers exclusive to the event, which is often high-dollar. One of those are the Black Boxes from Panini.

The 2011 Industry Summit will take place in Las Vegas on Mar. 20-23. Why should collectors care? There are some amazing products given away to dealers – the target audience at the summit – that are then passed on to customers.

Among the prized offering are the “Black Boxes” from Panini America. Straight from Panini’s The Knight’s Lance Blog, the Black Boxes are comprised of cards from the company’s “libraries, a limited number of overrun cards from our roster of products printed specifically for inclusion in Black Boxes and for other hobby promotions.”

This year cach Black Box included one slabbed memorabilia or autographed card numbered to one. Some boxes will include an additional 1-of-1 surprise.

Glimpses of the cards included in the Black Boxes courtesy of the Panini blog showed a healthy dose of football and basketball card, with some baseball and hockey thrown in. Jumbo patches, mult-swatches, autographed cards and more were included.

These go across all Panini/Donruss products, so look for participaing hobby shops to be peddling these now.
