Thomas Fish, owner of BlowoutCards.com, was one of an estimated 500 vendors who were set up in Washington, D.C., Jan. 20 selling items to those attending the Inauguration ceremonies. Vendor space was allocated through a lottery. Fish was selling the Barack Obama card set produced by Topps.

“I didn’t sell as many wax boxes and packs at the event that I had anticipated,” Fish said. “But what sold really well were single cards from the set that we put out and were selling for $1 each. People were spending a lot of time looking over the cards and selecting the ones with the photos they really liked.”

By Wednesday morning, however, Fish reported a “significant increase” in sales of wax boxes of the set from his website. “Many of the orders were coming from Northern Virginia and other areas near D.C., so I have to assume some people liked what they saw at our booth and went home and ordered online.”
