Michael Jordan Skybox card sells for six figures in Huggins & Scott auction
The price of Michael Jordan cards have dropped dramatically in the last year, with high-grade versions of his popular 1986-87 Fleer rookie card selling for as low as $20,000.
But some special Jordan cards are still attracting six-figure prices. A 1998-99 Skybox Premium Basketball Star Rubies Jordan card, graded BGS 8.5 and numbered #46/50, sold for $159,900 last week in the Huggins & Scott holiday auction. (By comparison, a Jordan rookie card graded PSA 8 sold in the same auction for $8,735).
The Jordan Skybox card was pulled by the consignor when the set was released and was stored in near-perfect condition for the past 25 years.
Other highlights of the Huggins & Scott auction include a 2003-2006 Ichiro Suzuki autographed and game-used Mizuno bat that belonged to Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star second baseman Carlos Garcia and sold for $51,660.
Also selling was a 1917 E135 Collins-McCarthy #147 Babe Ruth (PSA Poor 1) card for $49,200 and a 1909 T206 White Borders Christy Mathewson card (SGC 8) for $24,292.
