Willie Foster 1927 Negro League Jersey Unearthed

Game-worn Negro league jerseys are a tough find in themselves. A jersey worn by a Negro league player in the Hall of Fame is even more difficult to uncover. SCP Auctions will feature a circa 1927 Willie Foster Chicago American Giants jersey in its Dec. 7 sale.

As part of its 2013 Fall Premier Auction, SCP Auctions will feature one of the most important Negro League artifacts to surface in the hobby in decades.

Willie Foster, the greatest left-handed pitcher in Negro League history, wore this remarkable Chicago American Giants jersey in the late 1920s, the era in which he lead a team that captured the Negro League World Series title from 1926-27. Foster, the much-younger half-brother of Negro League player, pioneer and fellow Hall of Famer, Rube Foster, was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996.

The jersey has been authenticated and graded A8 by MEARS, and as such is the first and only Negro League jersey from a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame MEARS has authenticated to date.

Bidding opens Nov. 20 and concludes on Dec. 7. For more information on how to participate, visit www.scpauctions.com or call (949) 831-3700.
