Sale of Yankee Stadium Memorabilia Announced

On Monday, it was announced that the Yankees were paying the city of New York $11.5 million for the right to sell the city-owned memorabilia from Yankee Stadium. Today, the first wave of items to be sold was announced, courtesy of Steiner Sports, which partnered with the Yankees.

Let the Yankee Stadium memorabilia bonanza begin. After the Monday announcement that the Yankees paid $11.5 million for the right to sell memorabilia from the old Yankee Stadium (the city owned the stadium and its contents), everyone waited for the Tuesday announcement about what would be the first items sold.

So have a seat and read on. Literally, have a seat. Through Yankees-Steiner Collectibles (www.steinersports.com), some of the first items available are stadium seats, so and dirt from the old relic.

"I'm glad the city's agreement with the Yankees will generate much-needed revenue for the city and offer fans a chance to own some of the famed Yankee Stadium history," said Michael R. Bloomberg, mayor of NYC in a New York Times article.

Among the other items expected to sell through Steiner are bleachers, foul poles, player lockers and the trademark frieze around the stadium.

"The closing of the original Yankee Stadium marked the end of an era at an iconic American sports landmark," said Brandon Steiner, founder and CEO of Steiner Sports. "The original Yankee Stadium can now live on in each fan's household in a very unique way."

Pairs of seats are selling for $1,499 and up to $1,999 for specific seats aimed at season ticket holders. Commemorative single seats are available for $750. there will also be 1-foot by 1-foot pieces of :live" sod from Yankee Stadium on sale for $120, along with Final Season Crystals and dirt from the stadium for $80.

Steiner Sports is also conducting the Yankees Legends Auction, live now and running through July 24 on their website - www.steinersports.com.

More than 1,500 unique lots will be offered, ranging from stadium signs to historic moments at the stadium captured in photos. The auctions will also featured signed items from players who made the stadium famous.
