In 1941, Joe DiMaggio won his second AL MVP thanks, in part, to his historic 56-game hitting streak and a league-leading 125 RBI along with 30 home runs and a .357 average.

Just as DiMaggio, a three-time MVP, was wrapping up his Hall of Fame career, another legendary center fielder came along as Willie Mays made his MLB debut.

Mays played in the major leagues for 23 seasons and was good right up until his last few years. For instance, at age 37, Mays batted .289 with 23 home runs, 79 RBI and 12 stolen bases to make his 19th All-Star Game.

Huggins & Scott’s Spring Auction, which runs through May 29, includes game-used bats from DiMaggio and Mays. The DiMaggio bat was used by the Yankee Clipper in 1941-42, which would put it right at the center of his record 56-game hitting streak.
