Long Beach Expo to Feature 'Black Swamp' Cards on Display

From Baltimore to Long Beach, Calif. – those 'Black Swap Find' cards are getting around. The Long Beach Expo, to be held Sept. 6-8 will feature select cards from the find, as sports collectibles continue to gain more presence at the show.

Some of the century-old rare, series E98 baseball cards that recently generated national headlines – the treasure trove of 1910-era cards discovered in an Ohio house attic – will be publicly exhibited for the first time on the West Coast at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo ( The show is open to the public in the Long Beach Convention Center, 100 S. Pine Ave., Sept. 6-8.

"Among the Hall of Fame players whose cards will be exhibited courtesy of Heritage Auctions are Ty Cobb, Cy Young and Honus Wagner," said Cassi East, president of the Long Beach Expo.

In alphabetical order, these are the 10 cards and their PSA grade that will be displayed in Long Beach:

  • Frank Chance, PSA NM-MT 8
  • Fred Clarke, PSA Mint 9
  • Ty Cobb, PSA Mint 9
  • Johnny Evers, PSA NM-MT 8
  • Connie Mack PSA Mint 9
  • Chief Meyers, PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Honus ("Hans") Wagner, PSA NM-MT+ 8.5
  • Honus ("Hans") Wagner green background, PSA Mint 9
  • Cy Young, PSA NM-MT 8

"This will be the first time these historic baseball cards can be seen in person in California. The 10 on display in Long Beach were among the millions of dollars of rare cards found earlier this year stashed under a doll house in the attic when heirs were cleaning their late grandfather's house in Northern Ohio," explained East. "The first 37 cards offered by Heritage Auctions sold for a combined total of $566,132 a few weeks ago."

The Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo will be open to the public Thursday and Friday, September 6 and 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, September 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Public admission is $8 (good for all three days); $6 for members of any coin or stamp club; $4 for seniors 65 and older and for children ages 8-16. Free admission is available for PCGS and PSA Collectors Club members, PCGS, PSA and PSE Set RegistryM participants, PCGS CoinFacts members, PSA and PCGS Authorized Dealers and children ages 7 and younger.
