Trading Card Manufacturers Announce National Wrapper Redemption Plans
If you’ve attended a National Convention over the last several years, you’ve seen the mad dash a lot of early arrivals make for the back of the show floor, and you think to yourself, “Where the heck are they going?”
Chances are they are nestling themselves into the corporate area where the trading card manufacturers reside to nab the day’s exclusive cards, giveaways and take advantage of those wrapper redemption programs that have become so ingrained with The National.
This year will be no different, as the like of Topps, Panini, Upper Deck, Press Pass and Leaf have big plans for this year’s show. Without further ado, let’s see what those plans are.
In the Game
Break one box of Sportkings Series F at the In The Game booth and receive a National-exclusive relic card that contains single, double and triple pieces of memorabilia. Each card will have 19 silver versions and one gold.
Those who open a 16-box case of Sportkings Series F will receive a 1/1 Spectacular Patch card of Chicago favorites like Stan Mikita, Chris Chelios, Harold Baines, Bill Skowron, Luis Aparicio, Glenn Hall, Ed Belfour, Sammy Sosa and Jeremy Roenick.
Leaf
Leaf’s redemption program will award collectors who bust a box of one of 16 selected products from the 2012-13 offerings with Leaf Bucks that can be redeemed for prizes of your choosing, including show-exclusive signed items, Johnny Manziel signed sketch cards, 2013 Leaf Valiant Damian Lillard signed cards, National-exclusive six-card Yasiel Puig card set and a chance to win a $30,000 2013 Leaf Sports Icons cut signature Josh Gibson card.
Panini
Not all of the details are available yet from Panini at this time. However, we can provide a few details of what collectors can get. That includes an assortment of memorabilia cards, autographs and other rarities in a multi-sport base and insert sets that will include the likes of Bryce Harper, Kobe Bryant, Aaron Rodgers and Alex Ovechkin, along with local members of the White Sox, Cubs, Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks.
Twenty-three rookie cards will bolster Panini’s 2013 National base set, including the first numbered rookie cards of Yasiel Puig, the heralded NHL Double Rookie Class and the top four players selected in the recent 2013 NBA Draft. Panini’s base rookie cards will be numbered to 499; in addition, each will be paralleled by scarce Cracked Ice versions and Progressions cards limited to just five copies of four different colors.
Panini will also conduct its redemption trade-up program once again at the National. Those collectors in attendance holding multiple outstanding redemption cards FOUR MONTHS OR OLDER AND ALREADY PENDING IN THE PANINI AMERICA REDEMPTION SYSTEM the opportunity to trade them in for a card or cards of higher value.
For example, a collector holding four outstanding redemption cards with a combined Beckett value of $100 will have the chance to swap those four cards for one $100 card via a carefully constructed grab-bag system. The Panini America Customer Service team has assigned values to replacement stock and will offer grab bags containing one autograph or prime memorabilia card at $50, $100, $150 and $200 levels.
Each grab bag will offer minimum values at the depicted levels but many will deliver more than the listed value. Some $50 grab bags will contain cards valued at as much as $80; $100 grab bags will contain cards valued at as much as $140, $150 grab bags will contain cards valued as much as $180, and $200 grab bags will contain cards valued at as much as $250. Each grab bag may also include live onsite redemption cards good for boxes of product.
Press Pass
Press Pass will offer one blind-wrapped Mystery Pack for each hobby box of 2013 Press Pass NASCAR product purchased on the show floor from a dealer carrying 2013 Press Pass products. Every Mystery Pack will contain a National-exclusive Press Pass Fanfare autograph card. The roster will consist of approximately 50 drivers, and each card will be numbered to 10 or less. Each Mystery Pack will also include a limited-edition Exclusive Fanfare base set parallel card numbered to three.
Topps
Those who open three packs of Topps or Bowman hobby product at the company booth will get one card from the eight-card set produced in the style of 1952 Bowman featuring artwork by James Henry Smith of JHS Sketch Cards. Banks, Thomas, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Geno Smith, EJ Manuel, Tavon Austin and Eddie Lacy will make up the set. There will be only 100 cards made for each player each day.
The Bowman Platinum redemption program will feature a 25-card boxed set limited to just 500 serial-numbered copies. The first 100 collectors each day who open a hobby box of 2013 Bowman Platinum at the company booth will receive a set.
