Sports Memorabilia Starting to Spread at Antique Shows
For 40 years, the Indy Antique Advertising Show has been known as the best place to find collectibles in antique advertising.
“Several dealers are expanding their offerings to include sports collectibles and the customers have been very responsive,” said Bruce Weir of B & D Promotions.
Jay Kemplin from Farmer City, Ill., and Brian Sager from Tilton, Ill., set up the largest booth that concentrates on sports collectibles. “At a regular show, it’s rare to come across the type of items you find at Indy. Besides a national sports collector show, this is the only place to find the exceptional pieces,” Kemplin said.
Sports and advertising go hand-in-hand, yet these vintage and collectible items can be hard to find – especially the good quality items and the hard-to-find stuff.
“That’s what makes the Indy Antique Advertising Show so special. Dealers from 27 states bring their items for customers to see, touch and feel,” said promoter Donna Weir, adding, “Dealers often save something special back just for this show.”
At the September show, Rick Norton from Noblesville, Ind., exhibited a Golden Gloves leather jacket and boxing gloves. Rick acquired the items locally several years ago and had it displayed in his home. “I have enjoyed it for several years and hope the next owner will enjoy it as much as I have.”
Rick always looks forward to doing the show in Indianapolis. “It’s a top of the line show, as a dealer I stepped up my game to exhibit there.”
The Indy Antique Advertising Show, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, will open for early buyers on Friday, March 16 from 2-6 p.m., for $50, which also includes Saturday admittance. On Saturday, the show is open from 9-4 p.m. for $8 and kids under 12 are admitted free.
Early buyers can save $10 off the $50 entry fee by ordering tickets before March 1st. A reduced price of $40 is available by contacting the promoters by e-mail at weir683@gmail.com or through the website at www.indyadshow.com.
