Bradshaw, Magic, Bird rookie cards could be hidden treasures in unopened boxes at Heritage Auctions
If you love collecting old boxes of wax packs, or even ripping open old wax packs to discover what's inside, Heritage Auctions may have some hidden treasures for you in its May Showcase Sports Auction.
Highlighting Heritage's lots of unopened boxes is a 1971 Topps Football Series 2 Wax Box that features 24 unopened packs. The series features a rookie card of Hall of Famer and four-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Terry Bradshaw. Even marquee players that could that be in the box include O.J. Simpson, Joe Namath, Ray Nitschke, Gale Sayers, Bart Starr and rookies card for Joe Greene and Charlie Sanders.
Bidding for the box has already reached $27,000.
Other attractive boxes up for auction are a 1980 Topps Basketball Wax Box. The 36 unopened packs could include rookie cards for Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, cards that approached $100,000 in value. Bidding for the box has already reached $17,500.
Another popular basketball box is the 1981 Topps, which includes 36 unopened packs and features such Hall of Famers as Julius Erving, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and second-year cards for both Magic and Bird. Bidding is up to $3,200.
Looking for a Tom Brady rookie card? Heritage also has two unopened boxes of football cards from Brady's rookie season — a 2000 Bowman Chrome Hobby Box and a SP Authentic Hobby Box.
The Heritage auction runs through May 20.
