Earl Cooper Super Bowl ring sells for $18,047 in A

While two non-sport items sold for the highest dollar amount in the recently completed American Memorabilia September auction, it was an Earl Cooper San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl XVI Championship ring that led the way for the sports portion of the auction.

The Cooper Super Bowl ring came with its original box, as well as a letter from Cooper. The ring sold for $18,047.

Game-used jerseys also sold well in the auction, with the top selling jersey being a circa 1976 Tony Doresett game-worn, signed Pitt jersey that sold for $12,793. Other top-selling game-worn football jerseys included: a HOFer Jim Parker game-worn Colts Durene jersey with moderate wear ($11,273); a 1987 John Stallworth Steelers jersey, worn during his final season ($11,224); a 1926 Earl "Goodie" Goodwine Jr. Yale game-worn football jersey ($8,305); and a 1981 Marcus Allen USC jersey, signed ($7,666).

Top-selling game-worn baseball items included: a 1968 Catfish Hunter game-worn A's flannel vest jersey ($11,273); a Jorge Posada game-worn Yankees catcher's mitt ($10,672); a 1970 Bert Campaneris game-worn A's Flannel vest ($7,479); a 1996-97 Greg Maddux game-used glove ($6,969); and a 2003 Albert Pujols game-worn Cardinals road jersey ($6,863).

The Elvis Presley item that led the way was a complete set of five, with red "Sample" stamp, Sun Promo Records that sold for $28,854.
