Bill Veeck was the showman of baseball owners. In 1951, he brought in 3’7″ Eddie Gaedel to bat for the St. Louis Browns at a stunt to get publicity. It worked, as with one at-bat, he’s still a name baseball fans remember. the bat Gaedel used in that game will be auction by Heritage in the company’s Platinum Night event on Aug. 1.
