Rare Brooks Robinson card sets record in Huggins & Scott auction
As one of the greatest defensive player in MLB history, Brooks Robinson holds numerous records as a third baseman, including consecutive Gold Gloves with 16.
He now also holds a record on the sports card market.
A 1961 Topps Dice Game Robinson card graded SGC EX/NM 6, the highest graded example of the rare card, sold for $72,000 in the Huggins & Scott’s Summer Auction, setting a record or the card.

Also setting records were a newly discovered 1921 Tip Top Bread Baltimore Orioles Lefty Grove Pre-Rookie card (SGC FAIR 1.5), which sold for $58,800, and a 1969 Topps #321 Jim McAndrew (PSA 10), the only example graded at that level, finished at $39,600. Both sales were all-time highs for the respective cards.
Topping the memorabilia results was a Babe Ruth single-signed American Association baseball that sold for $27,600 and a 2009 Los Angeles Lakers NBA Championship 15K gold ring presented to Assistant GM Ronnie Lester, which sold for $20,400.
“The appetite for vintage cards continues to be extremely strong as showcased by the trio of records that led this event. But what’s even more exciting is the assortment of solid results we had across the board, which demonstrates the fantastic current state of the hobby,” said Ron Oser, vice president & director of consignments at Huggins & Scott.
