Patrick Mahomes made headlines last week when a special 1/1 Mahomes rookie card sold for $4.3 million, a record for football trading cards.

Now a sister card is available through the Collectable fractional ownership platform.

PWCC Marketplace recently brokered the sale of a 2017 National Treasures Platinum 1/1 card (BSG 8.5), which features a Mahomes autograph and an NFL Shield patch, to Leo Ruberto, a collector and owner of LJ’s Card Shop in New Albany, Ohio. The transaction topped a Tom Brady Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket card (BGS 9) that sold for $3.1 million in Leland’s Mid-Spring auction as the top-selling football card of all time.

Collectable’s “Laundry Tag” parallel card is one of only three 1/1 versions of the Panini National Treasures Rookie Patch Autograph, Mahomes' most coveted rookie card. The difference between the three 1/1s cards is the uniform patch on the card. While the PWCC card features the NFL shield logo, the Collectable version shows the NFL shield, the iconic Nike swoosh and the size ’56 identifier.

With the “NFL Shield” card off the market, Collectable believes the “Laundry Tag” card, which is graded PSA Authentic with a 10 autograph, is the second-best Mahomes card in existence and the premier Mahomes card available. It is offering the card at a 65 percent discount of the record sale price, calling it a “blue chip investment.”

“We saw an exciting moment for the hobby last week with a record-setting sale of a Pat Mahomes rookie card, but we also know that fans want to be a part of these moments,” Collectable CEO Ezra Levine said. “That’s why we’re excited to be able to offer an opportunity to invest in a sister card to the record-setting Mahomes card for $5 a share, giving fans the potential to see returns based on the record setting sale.”

Mahomes rookie cards have soared in value this year, topping $90,000 in recent online auctions. Rare Mahomes parallel rookies, meanwhile, are among the most valuable football cards on the market, with a Black Rookie Patch Autograph parallel 1/5 selling for $840,000 at Goldin Auctions in January.

Collectable, which launched last year, is the hobby’s first fractional ownership platform for sports memorabilia, completing more than 100 sports collectible asset IPOs. Collectors can invest by downloading the Colletable app.
