I don't know about you, but my memories of Memorial Day from my 30-plus years on the East Coast center around death-defying sorties up and down Interstate 95 between New York and Washington, D.C. I don't miss that stuff, and I know for a fact that the I95 corridor is even more challenging now than when I lived along it.
Much safer to simply stay at home, sip Pabst Blue Ribbon, nibble on cheese curds and order books and CDs online from http://shop.collect.com/category/sports-specials

The Four-Day Memorial Day sale provides 20 percent or more off virtually everything in our sports lineup, though some exclusions apply. The lawyers made me say that last part. By using the promo code MEMORIAL20, you can pick up the 2010 Baseball Card Price Guide ($17.24) or the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards ($35.99). I'm way too modest to nudge you toward a 25 percent savings on my own book, Legendary Yankee Stadium ($20.99), so instead I can recommend several hugely discounted combination packages of books and CDs, or even a really cool book we did on Brett Favre a couple of years ago when we naively thought he might actually retire from the NFL.

And I should warn you: even though I am plugging our sports titles, if you venture to our site you might notice that we offer literally thousands of books and magazines on just about any hobby, craft or collectible fascination that you may be harboring. Though I have been affiliated with this company for more than 20 years and working here in Iola full time for nearly 17, I am still struck by the scope and breadth of hobby-related stuff that we offer.

And that's sincere, not just me shilling books because some suit sort of obliquely hinted that it might be a good idea.

I was lying about eating cheese curds, though.
