Retired football players are some of the best signers of all professional athletes. With some politeness, accurate postage and a friendly note, you’ll find much success with the individuals below.

The list below showcases the player’s name, date autograph request was sent, date the autograph request was returned, where it was sent (in this installment, “H” refers to a home address, “O” refers to an office and “S” refers to the team’s arena).

When possible, the autograph request is addressed to the player, in care of the team, and sent to the team’s offices.

Tips

• Do not limit yourself to just sending to ex-players’ home addresses or current MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, etc. teams they might be working for.

• Many players have gone on to coaching careers at the college and high school level. Check all levels of college and universities sports websites to see if they have ex-professional athletes on their coaching staffs.

• When writing to current or former players via a college or university, use the athletic department’s mailing address to reach that player.

• Check the athletic department’s staff directory on the school’s sports athletic website to see if an email address is listed. This can be another way to contact the coach you are looking for, to see if they will sign and return you item. You can avoid wasting time, money and effort if they will or do not sign through the mail by contacting them first.
