EAC Rolls Out Another Impressive Presidential, Sports Lineup
There aren’t a lot of places where you can scour the Who’s Who from history books and also revel in information from the likes of The Beatles, Babe Ruth, Jim Brown and Bing Crosby.
EAC Galley is one of those places, and with each auction the company presents, you not only have the opportunity to learn something about these immortals, but also bid on personal items from these figures, mostly in the form of autographs from signed documents, photos or checks.
All of the big names appear in the current EAC Galley Winter Auction, which is live now and ends March 4 at www.eacgallery.com. Six hundred lots are available for viewing and bidding, featuring the aforementioned Lincoln, Ruth, Brown and Crosby, but also Ty Cobb, Cy Young, Jim Corbett, Muhammad Ali, Frank Sinatra, George Washington and a host of other political figures, celebrities, entertainers and athletes.
The lineup
Heading the list once again is a heavyweight lineup of presidential signed documents, led off by a quartet of Lincoln-signed documents. The first lot is a signed letter dated a month before his “House Divided” speech and during his “Almanac” murder trial. The other three signed documents are war-dated examples covering war appointments and pardons.
Another stellar political piece is a Thomas Jefferson and James Madison signed document as president and secretary of state, respectively.
The top entertainment lot is a Beatles-signed photo, circa 1962, from Roger Epperson.
And then the sports stars come up to play. Per usual, the group is led by Ruth. The auction includes a trio of Ruth-signed pieces, which includes two photos and a signed check. Ruth is also featured on a 1931 Yankees team-signed baseball and a 1934 All-Star Tour of Japan team-signed baseball where Ruth is joined by other luminaries from the diamond.
The Babe isn’t the only big-time baseball star in the auction. There’s also a photo signed by Cobb and a Cy Young signed portrait.
Autographed baseballs and bats range from Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle and Hank Greenberg to Sandy Koufax, Albert Pujols and Willie Stargell.
There will also be a fine selection of signed material from the gridiron and hardwood. Examples include a 1973 NBA Champs New York Knicks signed lithograph, Walter Payton signed lithograph and a Joe Namath signed Jets jersey. Jake LaMotta, Bobby Orr and Ben Hogan signed items will also be in the sale.
Game-used pieces include a Bobby Murcer Yankees game-used jersey from his rookie season, Charlie Neal 1962 Mets jersey and a Ralph Houk 1970 Yankees jersey during his time as manager with the club.
As always, there are also many fine pieces surrounding the signers of the Declaration of Independence, the Civil War, royalty and other historical pieces.
