Macklin Celebrini joins Wayne Gretzky with $1 million hockey card

Trading cards of young NHL star Macklin Celebrini have been surging during his breakout season.

Now a Young Guns card of the San Jose Sharks forward, who scored 45 goals and 115 points in his second season, has set a record.

Celebrini’s #1/1 2024-25 Upper Deck Young Guns Outburst Gold #451 Rookie Card sold for a record $1.28 million in Goldin’s latest Monthly Sports Elite Auction.

1952 Topps Baseball wax pack brick tops $1 million at REA

It was the all-time highest public sale for any hockey card other than NHL legend Wayne Gretzky’s top-selling cards. Only four hockey cards have topped $1 million, three of them of Gretzky, including his 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee card (PSA 10) that sold for a record $3.75 million in 2021 and $1.29 in 2020.

Celebrini’s card was one of several collectibles to set records during the auction, including two Kobe Bryant cards.

A #1/1 2015-16 Panini Flawless Momentous Autographed Memorabilia Platinum #MM-KB Kobe Bryant Auto Patch card sold for $489,830, while a 2000-01 Upper Deck Game Jersey Autograph Series 2 #KB-A Kobe Bryant Auto Relic card (#8/8) Jersey Number sold for $368,441. Three other Kobe cards also topped $300,000 (see below).

Other record-breaking sales included:

• A 2013 BBM 1st Version Red Foil Facsimile #183 Shohei Ohtani Rookie Card (#20/25) (PSA 10, Pop 2) for $341,600, the all-time highest public sale for the card.

• 2000-01 Upper Deck Game Jersey Patch 1 Autograph #KB-PA Kobe Bryant Signed Game-Used Patch Card (#6/8) (PSA 8, PSA/DNA 10, Pop 1) for $317,200.

• 2025-26 Bowman Chrome SuperFractor #BCV-143 Victor Wembanyama (#1/1) Jersey Number (PSA 10) for $233,020, a record for any Bowman Wemby card.

• 1999-00 Upper Deck Encore Game Jersey Autographs #MJ-A Michael Jordan Signed Relic Card (#2/23) (PSA Authentic) for $231,800.

• 2026 Topps All Kings Gold #AK-4 Shohei Ohtani (#1/1) (PSA 6) for $207,400.

• 2000-01 Upper Deck SP Game Floor Authentic Floor Autographs #MJ-A Michael Jordan Signed Game-Used Relic (#20/23) (BGS 7, Beckett 10) for $159,277.

• 2024-25 Panini Donruss FIFA Kaboom! Black #6 Jude Bellingham (#1/1) PSA 9) for $150,060.

• 2026 Bowman Chrome Anime SuperFractor #BA-3 Munetaka Murakami Rookie Card (#1/1) (PSA 9) – for $92,730.

• 1997-98 SkyBox Premium Team SkyBox Star Rubies #226 Kobe Bryant (#028/50) (BGS 7) for $80,520.

• 2025 Panini Donruss Optic Downtown Gold Vinyl #7 Saquon Barkley (#1/1) (PSA 10) $43,920.
