Leaf Takes Over Sportkings Trading Cards

Leaf takes over the Sportkings brand, continuing the appeal of the set and broadening the distribution.

Leaf Trading Cards announced it will be manufacturing and distributing Sportkings Trading Cards going forward. Leaf will unveil its very first Sportkings product at this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention, which is scheduled to take place in Cleveland from July 30 through Aug. 3.

“We are excited to apply our brand to Sportkings since they already have such a rich history,” said Leaf President Brian Gray. “The most important thing for collectors to know is that we will not be deviating from any designs or innovations they’ve already done. We will not abandon their successful formula. We are simply going to build on their tradition and bring lots of new names to the product line like Ichiro, Michael Phelps, Greg Maddux and Chipper Jones.

"And we will bring back the ‘Future Sportkings’ inserts with such up-and-coming players as Jadeveon Clowney, Johnny Manziel and Damian Lillard."

Dr. Brian H. Price, president of In the Game, has spearheaded the Sportkings line since 2008. “It will be exciting to work with Leaf, sharing my vision for Sportkings while allowing them to manufacture, market and distribute the brand,” said Price.

“In 2008, I had a blank canvas for the revival of this iconic trading card line and I am very proud of what I accomplished,” he added. “The arrangement with Leaf will allow Sportkings to achieve even more in future releases. The list of Sportkings who I have been associated with is a who’s who of iconic athletes from around the world, encompassing all sports. I am thankful for their participation, but working with Leaf will open new horizons for player content and that’s something I look forward to.”

Added Gray, “The continuity of the brand will remain intact. Collectors need to know that.”
