Vintage card sales highlight 19th Century Only Jan

Looking at the results of the January auction hosted by 19th Century Only, it is easy to see that vintage cards are still in high demand with collectors. The top selling items in the 126 lot auction were all of the vintage card variety.

Topping the list was a 1910 M116 Honus Wagner (blue background) card graded GAI 2.5 by Global Authentication. The card received 21 bids, and sold for $4,135. A distant second was a 1921 E121 American Caramel (Series of 80) Ty Cobb card, graded PSA 5. The card received 20 bids, and sold for $1,387. Next in line was a 1912 T207 Anonymous Back Louis Lowdermilk card graded PSA 4. It sold for $1,089.

Two other lots surpassed the $1,000 mark, including a 1911 T5 Pinkerton Cabinets Collection of 14 cards in very low grades, but included Plank and Bender. The lot sold for $1,076. The other lot was a 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter Charles Cominskey card, graded GAI 5 that fetched $1,034.

Rounding out the top-10 lots were: a 1909 E90-1 American Caramel Larry McLean card, graded GAI 2 ($999); a 1911 E94 George Close Honus Wagner GAI Authentic card ($940); a 1909 T206 Jack Knight (batting), rare printers proof GAI Authentic card ($879); a 1914 T216 Kotton Cy Young (thin version) card, graded GAI 1 ($783); a 1909 E90-1 American Caramel Sam Crawford card, graded SGC 70 ($777); and a 1922 E121 American Caramel (Series of 120) Babe Ruth card, graded PSA 2 ($777).
