Signed Truman ball, Gehrig bat top Coach's Corner

A Harry S. Truman-signed 1950s era Rawlings Midwest League ball sold for $6,330 and was the top-selling item among the 3,211 offered in the February Coach's Corner Sports and Celebrity Auction.

Meanwhile, a Lou Gehrig signed Hillerich and Bradsby Louisville Slugger bat sold for $5,441. The 34-inch bat showed considerable wear, but had his signature on the barrel in green fountain pen ink.

A red-laced 1940s vintage Harwood baseball signed by Black Sox star Eddie Cicotte was hammered down for $4,900. The ball was signed in black ink on the sweet spot with the signature rated as a legible 7.

In addition, a Babe Ruth single-signed MacGregor ball sold for $4,501. With "Sincerely" added in Ruth's hand, the ball and signature graded at an overall 8.

Among other notable sales were $3,829 for a Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner signed official National League Warren Giles baseball, $3,157 for a 1934 Tour of Japan with 18 signatures on it, including that of a Japanese sportswriter for the Youmiori Shimbun newspaper; $3,083 paid for a Babe Ruth signed H&B Louisville Slugger bat, $2,900 for a Dan Brouthers signed album page, $2,815 for a Honus Wagner singed Warren Giles National League baseball and $2,552 for a Christy Mathewson late-1800s ball.

Other top items in the spotlight included: $2,147 for a Walter Johnson signed MacGregor baseball, $1,983 for a Jimmie Foxx signed Rawlings ball, $1,838 for a Grover Cleveland Alexander signed MacGregor Official League baseball, $1,368 for a Ruth signed scrapbook page cut, $1,324 for a Cobb signed DeBeer and Son Little League ball, $1,366 for a Johnny Evers signed small Draper & Maynard ball, $1,222 for a Tony Lazzeri signed Rawlings ball, $1,197 for a Frank Baker signed red-laced 1950s era ball and $1,158 for a game-worn Allen Iverson 76ers jersey.
